We are excited to share our newest offering, a delicious new single origin coffee from the Kayon Mountain farm in Ethiopia.
Kayon Mountain coffee farm is a 500 hectare farm in the Shakiso, Oromia region of Ethiopia, located at over 1900m above sea level.
This naturally processed coffee has notes of blueberries and sweet dates. It is medium bodied, and has a delicious, juicy finish.
We’re particularly excited about this coffee because of the passion and story behind its farmers. The Kayon Mountain Coffee Farm is owned by multiple families that have been born and raised around the experience of coffee. These shareholding members had mainly been supplying coffee to auction, the typical method for export in Ethiopia, for the past 30 years until they started their farm in 2012.
By 2015, they had implemented washing stations and dry-hullers allowing them to start exporting their own coffees and now see an annual production of about 300 tonnes.
Kayon Mountain shares its coffee trees, heirloom Typica, with other land reserved for cabbage, and indigenous shade trees. The farmers plan to plant more coffee, improve the quality of their processing, and even begin leasing more land to expand their practice.
Available in store now, come by our Semlin Dr roastery or Kingsway cafe to taste this amazing new coffee.
